We would like to thank all members of the Leiden University Panel for sharing their opinions on Leiden University’s catering services. 143 panel members (64 students and 79 employees) participated in the survey (June & July 2016). Following this input, the University Services Department (UFB) made a series of changes to cater to the ideas and wishes expressed by the panel. The expressed demand for organic meals among both employees and students alike led to the creation of PURE, a concept that stands for a healthy product range with high-quality ingredients, presented in handy portion sizes. All PURE products are guaranteed organic and therefore extra delicious. Think of colourful salads or tasty sandwiches with only green and healthy toppings.
PURE’s focus is on three aspects: vegetarian, healthy and sustainable food.
The demand for vegetarian products is on the rise. We are catering to that demand with PURE. Products marked with the vegetarian logo were specially developed for the vegetarians among us.
We now also have low-sodium, low-sugar and low-fat products. We offer these in two ways. First, we have replaced existing products with healthier alternatives that taste just as good. And second, we are introducing several new products, during the development of which we already applied these principles.
Imagine leaving the world behind in a better state than in which we found it. Everyone has heard about the plastic soup in the ocean. With less packaging, a different range of drinks and a pilot in our restaurants, we are doing our part.
The PURE concept meets the demand for more competitive prices. The range of products offered in our restaurants and cafés prominently presents these healthier options, which are priced as competitively as possible. There is also a demand for longer opening hours. The opening hours at the Lipsius, Pieter de la Court, Huygens and Van Steenis restaurants have already been extended, and we will analyse this further in the upcoming period. Not enough restaurant guests know that the Lipsius restaurant and Kamerling Onnesgebouw café serve hot meals in the evenings. We will do our best to focus on that more. We hope you liked being the first group of panel members and that you are willing to encourage colleagues and fellow students to participate in The Leiden University Panel as well. The more opinions we have, the better an idea we can get of what people want. We would like to thank you again for your input and hope we can count on your feedback in future surveys.
